Suicide is the number one cause of death for young people in Australia, and I’m sure every person reading this has been affected by mental health at some point - either directly or indirectly. Youth Focus is on the front line fighting this issue, and their work is invaluable.
Two and a half years ago, two of my friends, James Trench and Mitchell Harrison, decided to take part in the 2022 Ride For Youth. On their journey to complete this challenge, I could see the boys were undergoing a considerable degree of personal development from the gruelling 20 week training regime - and having a bucket-load of fun at the same time.
No stranger to a challenge myself, participating in regular running competitions, completing the 2023 Rottnest Channel Swim, as well as being a semi-professional sailor, when James suggested I should consider the Ride in 2024, it seemed like a no-brainer.
Having also sustained a double knee injury, being able to set myself a challenge that is low impact on my knees while raising money and awareness for such an important foundation like Youth Focus is an opportunity I cannot pass.
