Cocktail Ceremony 2023 Wrap Up

Go Back

On Friday 31 March, participants and supporters of the 2023 Hawaiian Ride for Youth came together to celebrate this year’s incredible achievements.

As part of a long-standing tradition, the riders and support crew who have participated in five events were recognised with the presentation of a commemorative key chain. On behalf of the Ride Organising Committee, Youth Focus and fellow participants, congratulations to all the riders and support crew on reaching their fifth year in 2023. Thank you for your ongoing and unwavering commitment to the cause.

Another very special part of the cocktail ceremony is the announcement of the ‘Spirit of the Ride’ recipient. In 2016, we lost a wonderful member of our ride community, Geoff Rasmussen after a long illness. In honour of Geoff’s contribution and commitment to the ride, the Spirit of the Ride award was created in 2018. This award is presented to a first-time rider who exemplifies the attributes of Geoff Rasmussen. In 2023, along with a record number of first-year riders, came a record number of nominations from team captains for this award.

This year, the Spirit of the Ride Award was presented to Ella Gibson. As a first-year rider, Ella showed strength and endurance during training and Ride Week. She wholeheartedly committed to the challenge both on and off the road, with an incredible drive to reach her fundraising target and a positive, uplifting attitude towards her peers. Congratulations Ella.

In 2023, Charlie Elders was inducted as a ‘Legend of the Ride’. Charlie joined the Hawaiian Ride for Youth in 2005 and has ridden every year until 2022 when he officially retired. As well as riding, this year will be his company’s 17th year of team sponsorship. Thank you for your generous ongoing support, Charlie.

The Hawaiian Ride for Youth will be held from 18 – 25 March 2024. Register your interest here: https://www.rideforyouth.com.au/
